Free To Be Me

Today’s world has been turned upside down and our children are struggling! Not only are they

trying to understand what is going on in the world. But, more importantly, who they are and where they fit.

In this poem, Free To Be Me, we are introduced to Moriah, a young elephant, who is confronted with that exact same question that ultimately, we all have to answer-

What is the meaning of life, where do we fit, where do we find our significance and meaning and how do we live each day with the wonder, fascination, and trust of a child.

For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans to prosper you
Not to harm you, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon
Me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me
When you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you, declares the Lord,
And will bring you back from captivity.
Jer 29: 11 – 14

Free To Be Me

There once was an elephant,
Moriah’s her name.
She wished to be different;
Not merely the same.

Each day she’d rise early;
Awake before dawn.
To see the sun crest
And welcome the morn!

Her ears began flying;
Her trunk she held high.
She ran like the wind
Never breaking her stride.

At the end of the day,
She jumped into bed.
Exhausted from running,
She laid down her head.

She dreamed she’d been captured
And couldn’t run free.
Her efforts were useless;
Her fears hid the key.

Escape seemed so hopeless;
No rescue in sight.
Her fears were the ropes
That held her so tight.

The wind with a gust
Whooshed open the door.
Moriah was fearful
And fell to the floor.

I made you with purpose;
I made you with pride.
To run like the wind,
But you’re hiding inside.

I’ve broken your ropes,
So you can run free.
The only rope left
Is the one you won’t leave.

Moriah stood up;
Then fell with a thud.
One rope was still holding,
Her foot in the mud.

Seek and you’ll find me;
Seek with your heart.
There is nothing that ever
Can keep us apart.

Moriah with hope
Made one step then four.
She’d broken her rope;
She raced to the door.

Away with you soon,
There is so much to do.
Only you can accomplish;
What I made you to do.

Her ears began flying;
Her trunk she held high.
She ran like the wind
Never breaking her stride.

The story is simple;
Its meaning is clear.
You’re made with a purpose;
It’s the reason you’re here.

Take heed of the ropes
That keep you apart.
From a life lived with purpose-
From doing your part.

Away with you soon;
There is so much to do.
Only you can accomplish
What God made you to do!
